State Department Chooses John Kirby as New Spokesperson

After leaving his post as Pentagon Press Secretary, Rear Adm. John Kirby will pick up the same role at the State Department, ABC News has confirmed.

Kirby’s appointment as State Department spokesman has yet to be made official, but ABC News has learned it is essentially a done deal.

Kirby is replacing Jen Psaki, who recently left the post to take a communications job at the White House.

Kirby must retire from the military before he begins his new job, which he’s expected to start in the next several weeks.
