Marlins Fire Manager Mike Redmond
Published at | Updated at(MIAMI) — The Miami Marlins fired manager Mike Redmond following their 6-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday.
The Marlins sit at 16-22 and owner Jeffrey Loria could not watch anymore of the lack-luster play this season.
“We haven’t played to our capabilities,” Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said. “We’re hopeful that a new voice will spark and motivate our guys.”
“We’re looking for that consistency,” Hill continued. “We’re swinging the bat well at times, but not when we need to do it. We’re pitching well at times, but not when we need to do it. I think the solution is in that clubhouse.”
Redmond went 62-100 during his first year with the club in 2013 and they improved under him, finishing 77-85 in 2014, but the organization couldn’t afford another losing season.
The Marlins will announce who is taking over the club on Monday at 11 A.M. Eastern.
