RIGBY — Jerry Jenson, 53, was arrested by the Rigby Police Department on June 9 after an altercation at the Family Dollar store at 247 S. State In Rigby, according to a news release.

The police department reports the Rigby man was attempting to leave the store with a cart of unpaid for merchandise, when the store manager, 19-year-old Cheyenne Smith, tried to stop him. Jenson kicked her.

Officer S. Housley was called to the scene and asked him to step out to his patrol vehicle. As they exited the store Jenson started to walk away from officers. Housley attempted to detain Jenson, who struck Housely on his back at the left shoulder. Jefferson County Sheriff Deputy T. Wray and Housley were able to get Jenson into handcuffs and he was placed under arrest.

Jenson is charged with battery on a peace officer, one count of felony burglary and one count of felony battery on Cheyenne Smith. He also has been given a notice of trespass advising he is not allowed to return to Family Dollar or he will be arrested.
