Tom Brady Courtroom Sketch Artist Didn’t Even Know Who He Was

Jared Wickerham/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The Internet decided to have a bit of fun with quarterback Tom Brady’s courtroom sketch this week, launching hilarious memes from inserting it into Picasso paintings to comparing him to Quasimodo and Jim Carey’s character in The Mask movie.
Courtroom artist Jane Rosenberg, who has had an illustrious career for 35 years with thousands of sketches under her belt, had no idea this one rendition of the famous football player would make her a social media sensation.
Quite possibly the best part about this entire situation, however, is that Rosenberg didn’t even know who Brady was.
“I didn’t know who Tom Brady was,” she admitted on ABC News’ Good Morning America Friday. “I’m sorry. I looked it up on the Internet to see who Tom Brady was. I’m embarrassed, but I’m just not a football fan.”
She also didn’t know what a meme was until a few days ago when her work was transformed into instant meme magic tied to the NFL “Deflategate” scandal.
“It’s hard to believe,” she explained. “I didn’t know what a meme was until a couple of days ago. I just learned that word.”
Rosenberg says it’s “hard to sketch beautiful people in a very short period of time.”
“There’s a lot of subtle things about their face that it’s hard to capture,” she said.
Despite his attractiveness in real life, “He wasn’t looking beautiful in court,” Rosenberg added of the star New England Patriots player. “It’s not a happy place. I think everybody was looking a little down. He spent most of the time looking down. But it’s hard to show somebody looking beautiful very quick.”
The limited time frame in which she had to get the sketches done contributed to her image that people found so funny.
“First of all, I didn’t have a clue how long; I could have had just a few minutes, so I had to hurry up and get it because it could have ended any minute,” she said. “And that’s the way it is. He could have just walked out. They could have settled and I could have had just a few minutes. I didn’t know, so I had to hurry and draw it.”
