Jeremy Corbyn was elected as the new leader of the Labour Party in the U.K. on Saturday, defeating Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall.
He received nearly 60 percent of more than 400,000 votes for a landslide win.
According to BBC, Corbyn said he was a “bit surprised” by the scale of the win, but his campaign was evidence that “politics can change and we have changed it.”
Corbyn told supporters on Saturday the party “was about justice,” as well as democracy.
“We don’t have to be unequal. It does not have to be unfair, poverty isn’t inevitable. Things can, and they will change,” said the new leader.
