Video: “Jurassic World” trailer on a $77 budget

ISLA NUBLAR — Homages, mashups and recreations of popular movies is not an uncommon practice among YouTubers.
The Jurassic Park franchise has seen a particularly high amount of homages and jokes related to the films, which was also amped up by the release of “Jurassic World” last summer.
And the hits just keep on coming in the form of this new “Sweded” version of the “Jurassic World” trailer.
What is Sweded, you ask? Great question!
The word was coined in the movie “Be Kind Rewind” when the main characters erase all the VHS tapes in a movie rental store. To keep the business going, they reshoot the films with a camcorder. They then tell customers that it’s taking rentals so long to come in because they’re coming from Sweden. Thus the idea and word “Sweded” is born, and many movie reshooters often refer to them as such. (Whew.)
And that’s just what this piece of genius is. British YouTuber, Matthew Potter (no relation to Harry), said he spent only 50 pounds ($77 USD) to make the frame-for-frame trailer. As you would imagine, he had to get huge creative with costumes and sets, making it a fresh experience with plenty of delightful surprises and a few of his own jokes.
If you consider that the budget for filming “Jurassic World” was $150 million (not to mention that is grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide), the $77 Sweded trailer becomes even that more impressive. Well, sort of.
