Terrence Howard Explains Why He’ll Retire After “Empire”

Chuck Hodes/FOX(NEW YORK) — Terrence Howard was serious when he said back in September that he wanted to retire after Empire. And now, the Oscar-nominated actor is explaining why.
“I want to give Lucious the rest that I have in this creative space, and then I want to raise my son,” he told Extra, referencing his character on the hit Fox musical.
Howard and Miranda Pak, welcomed a son together, Qirin Love, back in May. Pak is the actor’s third wife. And although legal documents show that the two divorced earlier this year, Howard has publicly insisted that the two are still married.
“I’ve got a beautiful baby boy,” Howard continued. “I’ve met my one and I’ll be with her until time definite.”
Howard even shed light on what viewers can expect from the rest of the second season of Empire. “Maybe [Lucious] having a bipolar mother had a huge effect on him. That is one of the things we’re uncovering,” he teased.
The actor also admitted that on set his co-star keeps him on his toes professionally. “I was never as famous as a film actor as I am now,” Howard said, adding, “I’m still trying to stay in the game with the Cookie Monster. When you have Taraji P. Henson on your coattails, I’m like, ‘Am I still number one? Is it still my show?’ Yeah, I’m number one. It’s still mine.”
Empire airs Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. Eastern on Fox.
