IDAHO FALLS– A Downey man is jail following a dangerous situation involving his child, Idaho Falls police said.

Kyle G. Austin, 22, was arrested for felony injury to a child after he was found passed out inside a running vehicle in a closed garage with his 21‐month‐old son in the backseat Thursday, March 3.

Officers responded to the 1400 block of Jefferson around 4:30 p.m. after a property manager and maintenance person saw Austin slumped over the steering wheel while the vehicle was running inside the closed garage. They opened the rolling garage door and called police.

Detectives said Austin, who was under the influence of narcotics, had fallen asleep just after starting the vehicle.

Paramedics checked both Austin and the child. Neither was transported to the hospital.

The child was in the care of the police department before being released to the custody of his mother.

Austin is held in the Bonneville County Jail with no bond at this time.
