EAST IDAHO EATS: Shakas Oasis has food that’ll have you saying Aloha

IDAHO FALLS – What was once a vacant convenience store is now a deli, gas station combination that has locals excited for lunchtime.
“It’s a wonderful, local, gas station, that has so much more than just a gas station convenient store,” Shaka’s spokesperson Kathy Pope says.
Hawaiian themed Shaka’s Oasis opened its doors over 5 years ago. Inside the shop is the Sandwich Hut which serves fresh burgers, sandwiches and offers delicious ice cream.
“We have some of the best burgers, to die for. We have an on staff chef that creates new creations every month. We have a sandwich of the month,” Pope says.
When you come to Shaka’s you order thru a kiosk. You can customize the order any way you want, and if you’re on the go you can order online.
“(You) pay for it with your credit card and then just stop by it’ll be all ready for you. You just swing through, pick it up, and you’re right back to work,” Pope says.
Workers say one of the best sandwiches to get at Shaka’s is the Rueben. It has pastrami, Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing and sauerkraut all on marbled rye.
“The reuben it is the best in town that I’ve tasted, I’m kind of a reuben lover,” Pope says.
While the reuben has its advantages some customers prefer something with a little more bacon.
“It’s all about the turkey bacon club,” customer Will Evans says.
Pope says Shaka’s location is in the perfect spot for travelers.
“(It’s) right off (Interstate 15) and U.S. Highway 20. It’s easily accessible It’s right off the exit that you go to the airport,” Pope says.
