DAILY FORECAST: Cloudy with a chance of rain and flooding

  Published at

IDAHO FALLS — The winter storm advisory has been lifted in eastern Idaho for Friday, March 10.

However, the majority of eastern Idaho remains under a flood watch.

Starting Friday, temperatures are expected to rise into the mid 40s to near 50 in many areas where significant snow is still on the ground. Rapid snow melt is already occurring and is creating low land flooding, water over roads and flooding near homes. Expect more throughout the weekend.

The following cities are under the flood watch: Burley, Rupert, Heyburn, St. Anthony, Ashton, Island Park, Driggs, Victor, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Malad City, Oakley, Rockland, Henry, Soda Springs, Downey, Lava Hot Springs, Preston, Montpelier, Hailey, Ketchum, Bellevue, Arco, Challis, and Mackay.

Western Wyoming is under a winter storm warning with some 10 to 26 inches of snow predicted at higher elevations and 5 to 10 inches at lower elevations. Strong winds will also produce blowing and drifting snow.

No road closures are being reported as of 8 a.m. Friday.

The Idaho Transportation Department and Montana Transportation Department report dangerous conditions on Interstate 15 through the Monida Pass between Dubois and Dillon, Montana. Fog, slush and wet roads are being reported.

ITD also reports icy patches on Idaho Highway 34 between Soda Springs and the Wyoming State Line and on Idaho Highway 47 between Ashton and Warm River.
