IDAHO FALLS — There is another construction-related reason to avoid 17th Street over the next few months.

On Monday, 3H Construction will begin work on a two mile water service replacement project on 17th Street between Holmes Ave. and South 25th East (Hitt Road).

City officials are encouraging the public to plan ahead for alternate routes.

Traffic through the area may be reduced to a single lane on weekdays, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to a news release.

Full road closures may be necessary from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. on weekdays and all-day on Sundays.

Road construction also is underway at the Hitt Road and 17th Street intersection. The intersection is being expanded from 12 to 19 lanes to accommodate traffic.

Barring unforeseen conditions, both projects will be completed by early to mid-June. During construction, city officials remind drivers to observe all traffic control signs and road closures.
