POCATELLO — The gates of Zoo Idaho officially opened for the 2017 season this weekend.

his year marks the public debut of five animals at the zoo, including Hamlet, a pronghorn; Gigi, a mule deer; and Big Bob, a bull elk. Later this spring Rogue, a bobcat, and Beethoven, a silver-phase red fox, will be making their public debut on exhibit. The new additions arrived at the zoo after being brought to the facility by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.

“We’re excited to continue to bring the wonders of Idaho’s and the Intermountain West’s animals to our visitors and happy to see these animals continue the Zoo Idaho tradition,” Zoo Superintendent Peter Pruett said.

The zoo has a full slate of events scheduled for the season, including Mother’s Day and Father’s Day at the Zoo, Enrichment Day, Endangered Species Day, and one of its most popular — Ice Cream Zoofari.

“This year will be a busy year. We’re pushing to finish the entrance, building new bison, pronghorn and elk exhibits and preparing for the wetlands exhibit. The Pocatello Zoological Society has been busy working on new events to go along with Ice Cream Zoofari,” Pruett said.

General admission to the zoo is free for ages 0 to 2, $3.75 for ages 3 to 11, $5.75 for ages 12 to 59, and $4.50 for ages 60 and up.
