SALT LAKE CITY — The president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints remains hospitalized Wednesday afternoon, despite rumors circulating online that he has died.

Thomas S. Monson was not feeling well Monday night and was admitted to the hospital, according to LDS Church spokesman Eric Hawkins. Hawkins says Pres. Monson has received treatment and fluids and “will hopefully be released soon.”

Posts began appearing on social media Wednesday saying the church leader had passed away. Numerous people contacted EastIdahoNews.com to ask if the claims were true.

Hawkins tells EastIdahoNews.com the rumors are false and Monson remains in the hospital.

The 89-year-old leader attended the morning and priesthood sessions of the 187th Annual General Conference last weekend, but remained at home for the afternoon sessions. He has led the 15.8-million member faith for nine years.
