IDAHO FALLS — A bad breakup appears to have led to the recent arrest of an Idaho Falls man.

Dion C. Norman, 24, was arrested Wednesday on a felony warrant of attempted strangulation.

Police reports show Norman had allegedly gone to visit an ex-girlfriend’s home and became upset when she told him she didn’t want to see him anymore. Norman then allegedly pushed the woman down onto a couch and grabbed her by the throat.

According to court records, Norman was previously arrested on May 4 for misdemeanor unlawful entry at the same victim’s home. Norman pleaded guilty to that charge and was sentenced to 15 days in jail, with 14 days suspended and credit for one day served.

The felony charge was issued after the misdemeanor conviction, but the strangulation incident is said to have occurred on March 29.

Police noted in their report the victim had “abrasions on her chest from being pushed and on her neck from being grabbed.”

Norman made an initial court appearance Thursday and was released to pretrial services by a magistrate judge. He is due back in court fro a preliminary hearing in June.

A no contact order has been ordered for Norman and the victim.
