DAILY FORECAST: Wind advisory issued, flood conditions improving

A wind advisory has been issued in eastern Idaho for Friday, June 16.

Southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 45 mph are expected in Idaho Falls, Rexburg, St. Anthony, Dubois and Arco.

The wind will be particularly bad on Interstate 15 from Idaho Falls to Dubois and on U.S. Highway 20 from Idaho Falls to Arco.

The advisory expires at 8 p.m.

FLOODING

Flood conditions remain in east Idaho — particularly on the Snake River — but conditions are improving.

The Snake River near Heise is measuring above flood stage at 8.3 feet. Minor flooding near the Warm Springs Resort area is possible. The river is expected to begin declining this evening.

The Snake River near Blackfoot is measuring way above flood stage at 11.1 feet. Minor flooding is forecast in the Riverton area and in the Watson slough area.

Flood warnings have been downgraded to flood advisories on the Henrys Fork of the Snake River near Rexburg, on the Big Lost River below the Mackay Reservoir and on the Teton River near Driggs. Flooding is possible in these areas, but is not imminent.

Idaho Falls, Rigby and Rexburg

The Upper Snake River Plain will be partly sunny today with a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms. It’ll be very windy with southwest winds from 15 mph to 25 mph increasing to between 25 to 35 mph in the afternoon. Highs of 66 to 74 degrees are expected. It’ll be cloudy at night with a 50 percent chance for rain and thunderstorms. Lows of 45 to 53 degrees are expected with decreasing winds of 10 to 20 mph.

Pocatello, Fort Hall and Blackfoot

The Lower Snake River Plain will be partly sunny today with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs of 67 to 76 degrees are expected with southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph. It’ll be mostly cloudy at night with a chance of rain and thunderstorms. Lows of 47 to 55 degrees are expected with sustained winds.

St. Anthony, Ashton, Island Park, Driggs and Victor

The Upper Snake Highlands will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and thunderstorms. It’ll be breezy with highs of 59 to 68 degrees. It’ll be cloudy at night with a continued chance of rain and thunderstorms. Lows of 39 to 47 degrees are expected.

Arco, Challis and Mackay

The Lost Rivers area will be mostly cloudy today with a chance of rain and breezy conditions. Highs of 60 to 70 degrees are expected. It’ll be mostly cloudy at night with a chance of rain in the evening and lows of 39 to 46 degrees.

Henry, Soda Springs, Downey and Lava Hot Springs

The Caribou Highlands will be partly sunny with a slight chance of rain thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs of 66 to 76 degrees are expected with west winds of 30 mph in the afternoon. There is a chance for more rain at night with lows of 45 to 53 degrees.
