Gap Fire expected to be contained by Friday evening

The following is a news release from the Bureau of Land Management.

POCATELLO — Firefighters continue to secure the fire perimeter of the Gap Fire. The Gap Fire was mapped early Friday at 486 acres. No new fire growth occurred during the afternoon. Cooler temperatures assisted firefighter efforts as they worked inside the interior putting out hot spots. Fire managers anticipate full containment of the fire by 7:30 p.m. this evening.

Idaho Falls DistrictBureau of Land Management (BLM) engines and Caribou-Targhee National Forest (CTNF) engines, along with a handcrew ordered from the Boise National Forest (BNF), will stay on throughout the weekend to continue mopping up hotspots and monitoring the fire. Unless there is substantial rain fall from the cold front moving in, expect to see some smoke deep within the fire interior over the weekend.

Eastern Idaho’s Wildland Fire School, where new recruits learn how to safely fight fire, wrapped up last week. Many of those recent graduates are fighting the Gap Fire.
