IDAHO FALLS — Two years ago today we sent the following news release to media outlets across Idaho:

IDAHO FALLS – JULY 1, 2015 – Today we announce the launch of EastIdahoNews.com – an innovative new website featuring local news, information, photos, video, and interactive content for a worldwide audience.

EastIdahoNews.com delivers the day’s top stories and will constantly be updated with headlines, breaking news, on-scene reporting, business news, politics, entertainment, sports and more.

EastIdahoNews.com strives to provide the best stories using a variety of media. Our digital newsroom has a staff comprised of experienced print, TV, radio and web journalists who promise to work with other media by sharing content and resources to benefit the public.

The newsroom is led by Nate Eaton, a familiar face who began his career at KIDK-TV. Eaton spent the past six years reporting in Richmond, Virginia. He’s a compelling interviewer honored with numerous awards including the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award.

“I’m excited to be back in Idaho,” Eaton said. “EastIdahoNews.com is unlike any news outlet in the state. Folks no longer have to wait to get the news. We’re providing it as it happens – for free.”

EastIdahoNews.com will be staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with reporters, producers, editors, columnists, and contributors. The newsroom will frequently use its “Eye in the Sky” news helicopter to gather stories.

“Our goal is to produce compelling content for our community,” Eaton said. “We’ll be transparent, honest, and a news source East Idaho can trust.”

Only one media outlet, a digital news publication in New York City, covered our launch but that first day we had 5,601 page views and 3,694 users. We were thrilled.

We never could have imagined that two years later, just yesterday, we would have 234,979 pageviews (on a single day!).

In fact, in the 730 days we’ve been around, over 8 million users have visited stories on EastIdahoNews.com more than 35 million times.

Your support is incredible.

From following us on Facebook to downloading our app to correcting our typos to advertising on our site to letting us know when we’ve made mistakes – you are the reason EastIdahoNews.com has been successful. You are the reason we are here.

As a small token of our thanks (and to celebrate our birthday!), the wonderful folks at McDonald’s are giving every EastIdahoNews.com mobile app user a free ice cream cone next Tuesday and Wednesday (July 4 and 5).

No purchase is necessary (but we know you’ll order some fries) and the offer is only valid at McDonald’s locations in east Idaho. On Tuesday morning, a coupon will appear on your app that you can show McDonald’s workers in exchange for a free cone.

If you haven’t downloaded our free app, click here to do so and get your ice cream…plus the most up-to-the-second local news and information in your pocket.

While other media organizations are shrinking and cutting services, people and more, we are doing the exact opposite. We are growing and our news coverage will only become more in-depth and comprehensive.

As I said in that news release two years ago today, when nobody knew who we were or what we were doing, “We’ll be transparent, honest and a news source east Idaho can trust.”
