Utah woman ‘encouraged’ friend to attempt suicide, police say

LOGAN, Utah — A Logan woman was taken into custody Thursday after police say she “encouraged” her friend in an attempted suicide.
On June 25, officers received a call from Teresa Clark, 36, of Logan, saying she had found her friend unresponsive in a hotel room, officials from the Logan City Police Department said in a statement.
Police did not identify the woman, but said they found her two dogs dead in the room.
Over the course of the investigation officers were led to believe by the friend that Clark had provided the materials she used and “may have encouraged her friend to attempt suicide,” police said in the statement.
Officers later met with the friend and secretly recorded a phone call between her and Clark, according to Logan Police Capt. Tyson Budge. During the call, Clark said she was sorry the first attempt did not work out. The two also set up a time to meet so Clark could give her more of the same materials the friend had used in her earlier suicide attempt, Budge said. When Clark arrived to meet the friend on Thursday, officers arrested her.
Clark was booked into Cache County Jail on Friday on suspicion of two counts of attempted aggravated murder. She was also booked on investigation of two counts of aggravated animal cruelty in connection with the dogs’ deaths. Clark has not been formally charged by prosecutors.
