City of Ammon announces launch date for fiber utility services

The following is a news release from the city of Ammon.

AMMON — The City of Ammon, Idaho will celebrate the official launch of its fiber utility service on Oct. 5 at the Ammon Operations Center – 3453 S. Ard Dr., Ammon, ID 83406.

The City’s fiber network is the first of its kind, and puts the small Idaho town on the front lines of infrastructure and economic development. While the city paid for the installation of the fiber infrastructure, the network is “open access”, which allows multiple private internet service providers to compete for customers on the same dedicated fiber line to the home or business.

The one-day launch event will offer attendees the opportunity to hear more about Ammon’s economic model, and how the conservative, rural town built the network without any debt and secured a 75% subscription take rate. Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the city’s cutting edge facilities.

The event will bring together representatives from Ammon and the surrounding region, policy and broadband experts, and key stakeholders to learn more about Ammon’s Open Access Fiber Network.
