POCATELLO — A raging fire that’s gutting a house south of the city has injured a man.

The blaze was reported around 11:20 a.m. Thursday at a home on Pepper Grass Point in the area of Gibson Jack Road.

Around noon an ambulance was called to the scene to treat a man for what appeared to be smoke inhalation, according to a Journal photographer at the scene.

An update on the man’s condition was not immediately available.

Firefighters from the Pocatello and Pocatello Valley fire departments are battling the fire and called in additional fire units because the blaze is burning out of control. Reports indicate that the house’s roof and walls are collapsing.

The fire briefly spread to some nearby brush but firefighters quickly extinguished those flames.

At least one firefighting airplane is flying above the scene in case the blaze does become a wildfire.

The public should stay away from the fire scene until firefighters have the blaze extinguished.

Authorities have not yet commented on what could have caused the fire.
