IDAHO FALLS — Idaho Falls School District 91 has selected the design team for its high school redesign project.

Hummel Architects and Alderson Karst & Mitro submitted a joint application and will work with Bateman-Hall, the construction manager/general contractor, to improve the schools.

“After an extensive review of the proposals, we are happy to be partnering with the Hummel and AKM team on this project to redesign and modernize our high schools,” said Superintendent George Boland in a news releasee.

Hummel Architects is based in Boise, and AKM has been in Idaho Falls for more than 27 years. Hummel has worked on several schools in the area, including Skyline and Idaho Falls high schools, and AKM has completed several projects for the City of Idaho Falls’ airport, parks and recreation, law enforcement, and fire departments.

The team will now begin designing preliminary concepts and cost estimates for the project that will help the district modernize Idaho Falls and Skyline high schools.

“The goal is to modernize the schools and to support 21st century education,” said Margaret Wimborne, spokeswoman for District 91. “We want teachers to have space so students can interact and collaborate more.”

Over the next few months the design team will begin by gathering input from district and school staff, as well as students, parents and patrons. The district will release more information on how those who want to offer input can do so in the next few weeks.

“It’s just the beginning,” said Wimborne “But it is part of a continued effort over the last few years to improve our schools.”

In 2012 the school district began improving schools by building four new middle schools and making several improvements to other schools.
