The following is a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

BONNEVILLE COUNTY — On Nov. 24, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the area of 25th E. and Iona Rd. where it was reported that a male in a vehicle pointed a gun at occupants of another vehicle.

Deputies were advised by the reporting party that Ryan Benns, 23 of Idaho Falls, had been following them from Walmart and tried to wave them over. The reporting party had concerns due to past experiences with Benns and left the area in their vehicle to avoid him. At that time, Benns followed the reporting party on 25th E. and pulled alongside pointing a handgun at them. The reporting party slowed down and was able to drive away from Benns at that time.

Deputies made contact with Benns at his residence. He advised deputies he was following the reporting party, but did not display a firearm and denied having a handgun inside his vehicle. In a search of Benns’ vehicle, deputies located a handgun that matched the description of what the reporting party had described.

Benns was placed under arrest at that time and booked into the Bonneville County Jail for felony aggravated battery.
