Man arrested for aggravated assault and damaging police holding cell

REXBURG β€” A Madison County man was in jail twice Friday after allegedly attacking a woman and damaging a police holding cell while in custody.

Aaron Lucio, 41, was arrested and has been charged with felony aggravated assault, felony domestic battery, misdemeanor obstruction or resisting an officer and misdemeanor malicious injury to property, according to Rexburg Police Department spokesman Capt. Randy Lewis.

Police say Lucio had been drinking alcohol and got into an argument with a woman at a home on North Fifth East around 7 p.m. During the argument, police say, Lucio brandished two knives, threatened the woman and pushed her to the ground.

The woman was able to get to Madison Memorial Hospital, and police were notified of the incident.

Lucio was located, arrested and booked into the Madison County Jail. However, during his time in a holding cell, Lewis says Lucio began banging his head against a plexiglass wall, causing significant damage. He had to be subdued again by officers after repeatedly refusing to stop damaging the glass wall.

Police transported him to the hospital to be treated for minor head injuries. Lucio was taken back to jail afterward, according to Lewis.

This is not Lucio’s first encounter with the law. His Idaho criminal record includes a significant number of grand and petty thefts, burglary, aggravated assault, battery, and driving under the influence charges.

Lucio appeared in court Monday.
