Popular breakfast restaurant opening in Pocatello

POCATELLO – When Josh Swain opened Abracadabra’s in Idaho Falls a little more than two years ago, he had no idea it would be as popular as it is.

“If you look at all the restaurants in the valley, no one has a higher ranking on any site than we do,” Swain tells us.

Now Swain is hoping to turn that success into a franchise. That’s going to start with a new restaurant in Pocatello, which will open within the next 21 days.

Swain says customers can expect all the magic of the Idaho Falls location on a smaller scale. The menu and the experience will remain the same as in Idaho Falls, but the seating capacity is smaller.

The new restaurant will be open 7 days a week 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is located at 1151 Yellowstone Ave. in Pocatello.

He hopes to open a store in Twin Falls or Utah in the near future.

What’s the restaurant like?

Abracadabra’s is a breakfast and lunch restaurant that serves up a hearty menu.

Abracadabra was Swain’s brain child. For him, the name says it all — it’s a breakfast restaurant where magic and creativity happen, sort of like the Disneyland of food.

“Every adult has a child inside them. Our food allows you to tap in to that inner child,” Swain says.

Some of the menu items include Cap’n Crunch French toast, chicken and waffles, fried green tomatoes, fried bacon and much more.

“Over the last twenty years, chain restaurants have conditioned the American public to like itty bitty pancakes,” Swain says. “We went back to what my grandpa taught me as a kid, ‘I want pancakes that are big and fluffy and I want a big stack of them.'”

Skylar Putnam is the head chef at Abracadabra’s. He says he enjoys seeing the satisfaction of the customers.

“It’s rewarding to see someone love something as much as you do,” he says. “So much work and love goes into this. That’s extremely difficult to find anywhere else.”
