MADISON COUNTY — A Menan man has been charged with four felonies and two weapon enhancements after police say he attempted to strangle his girlfriend, threatened to kill her and pointed a gun at her 1-year-old son.

Trenton Lee Harris, 24, is facing two counts of aggravated assault, one count of attempted strangulation and one count of domestic violence for the alleged incidents that took place on March 9.

According to court documents, the victim called 911 after Harris allegedly stormed into her bedroom, grabbed her by the throat and proceeded to punch her in the head. The victim told police Harris then pulled out a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver and put it up to her head, threatening to kill her.

He then allegedly pointed the weapon at the victim’s 1-year-old son and said, “I should just kill you too – you little bastard. You’re probably not even mine.” Court documents state he then told the victim and her two sons to pack up and leave.

The victim told police Harris holstered the gun and locked it in a gun safe after hearing her call 911.

When questioned by police, Harris reportedly said things were going well until he received a text message from a man telling Harris that his girlfriend was cheating on him.

Harris denied choking, hitting or pointing a weapon at the victim or any of the children.

Harris is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on March 27 in Madison County.
