IDAHO FALLS — Members of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church had a disappointing discovery Sunday morning when they learned the inside of their building had been vandalized.

Police say several religious items were broken and at least $10,000 worth of property was stolen from the church on the corner of Sunnyside Road and Rollandet Street.

“This is a serious case of vandalism that we are investigating,” Idaho Falls Police spokeswoman Holly Cook tells EastIdahoNews.com. “Some internal windows were broken, items owned by the church were taken and many things were damaged.”

The crime likely happened sometime overnight or early Sunday morning. Church staff discovered the problems when they showed up to worship. Some services had to be moved to different rooms because the vandalism was so severe.

Police are following up on leads and ask anyone with information to call (208) 529-1200.
