POCATELLO — Portneuf Medical Center is on lockdown while police negotiate with an armed man who is inside of a vehicle at the hospital parking lot.

The man is parked in the south parking lot and has threatened to harm himself, according to Portneuf spokesman Todd Blackinton.

“As a precaution, hospital security has put the hospital on lockdown. Nobody can go in or out,” Blackinton tells EastIdahoNews.com. “We do not have an active shooter and nobody inside the hospital has been harmed.”

Blackinton says patients requiring emergency care are still being accepted in the E.R. Patients should go to the north entrance at the hospital, where they will be let in by police.

Police were called to hospital around 7:30 p.m. Multiple officers with the Pocatello Police Department, Chubbuck Police Department, Bannock County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho State Police are on the scene.
