The following is a news release from Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.

FREMONT COUNTY – On April 1, the St. Anthony Sand Dune season got underway. Around 9:45 a.m. the Fremont County Ambulance, along with Fremont County Sheriff deputies, responded to the St. Anthony sand dunes for an ATV accident.

The victim, 35-year-old Christopher Hansen of Meridian, went over a small dune. According to an EIRMC spokesman, Hansen is in serious condition. While landing, he and the ATV rolled end over end. After being treated by the Fremont County EMTs and paramedics, the victim was transported by Life Flight to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone that the dunes have undergone an extreme geographical change during the past few winter months and everyone is urged to operate their equipment safely and within their riding abilities.

The Sheriff’s Office is also reminding everyone that safety flags and a current 2018 OHV registration are required to operate any vehicle on the sand dunes.
