Chukars win 12-8 in Missoula

MISSOULA, Montana — Offerman Collado went 3 for 6 with a double and Jose Caraballo added 3 hits and Angel Medina doubled twice as the Idaho Falls Chukars got a road victory over the Missoula Osprey 12-8 on Sunday afternoon.

The Chukars scored 5 runs on 4 hits in the top of the first inning off of Missoula RHP Edgar Martinez, who allowed 10 runs and 8 hits in 3 1/3rd innings.

Missoula scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a 3 run home run by 1B Zach Shannon, who went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI’s. Shannon now has 5 home runs and 20 RBI’s on the year.

A big 4th inning for the Chukars gave starting pitcher Jonathan Heasley some breathing room. Tyler James led off the inning with a walk. James walked 4 times in the game. Collado followed with a bunt single. Rohlman hit into a fielders choice and with runners at the corners, Nick Hutchins hit a 2 run double to extend the Idaho Falls lead to 8-4. 2 other runs scored in the inning. Jose Caraballo hit an RBI single to score Hutchins and with 2 outs, Medina doubled to score Caraballo and make it a 10-4 Chukars lead.

Heasley pitched 3 shutout innings after allowing 4 runs in the first inning. Heasley finished the game with 4 innings, allowed 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Domingo Pena got the win for the Chukars, going 5 innings to finish the game. Pena struck out 4 batters, while walking 1 and allowing 4 runs on 7 hits. Pena featured a nasty 12 to 6 curveball that baffled Osprey hitters all day long.

Kyle Kasser had 2 singles to extend his hitting streak to 7 games and Jesus Atencio added 2 hits for his 2nd straight game.

The Chukars go to 20-16 on the year. They have split the first 2 games of the 4 game series. Tomorrow night it’s LHP JC Cloney (6-0, 1,96 ERA) vs Missoula RHP Wilfry Cruz (4-0, 4.82 ERA). 7:15 pm first pitch at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
