UPDATE: Local man dead after van crashes into semi-truck

REXBURG — Idaho State Police continue to investigate a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on westbound U.S. Highway 20 near Rexburg.

The crash occurred at about 4:20 p.m. Sunday.

Police reports show Heath B. Babcock, 38, of Pocatello was driving a 2014 Ram cargo van. Jeramy L. Nutt, 43, of Las Vegas, Nevada, was driving a 2013 Peterbuilt semi pulling a single trailer in front of Babcock.

Babcock and Nutt were both traveling westbound on US-20 in the right lane, however, police tell EastIdahoNews.com, that the semi was moving much slower than the van. The van struck the rear of the semi causing severe damage to the van.

Babcock died at the scene.

The westbound lanes of travel were blocked for approximately three hours and forty minutes. Idaho State Police was assisted by Rexburg Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Madison Fire Department and the Idaho Transportation Department, according to an ISP news release.

REXBURG — Idaho State Police and Rexburg Police are responding to a bad crash on U.S. Highway 20 between milepost Exit 332 and Idaho Highway 33.

The crash is blocking the westbound lane and all traffic is being diverted.

The crash appears to involve a semi and a large van.

No information is available people involved in the crash.
