Cody Alexander Young, 42, was arrested and booked into Juab County Jail after park rangers at Yuba State Park noticed his vehicle at the reservoir, according to a statement by Juab County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Brent Pulver.

Young was reportedly camping with Jan Pearson-Jenkins, 64, when she was last seen Oct. 4. Young messaged Pearson-Jenkins’ family and told them they got into an argument and he left her in the Silver City/Eureka area where they had been camping, Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen said earlier in the week. Pearson-Jenkins didn’t have her purse or cellphone and wasn’t appropriately dressed for the weather, according to Nielsen.

Juab County officials had previously checked the area where Pearson-Jenkins was later found and did not locate her. Search crews on Saturday located a body about a mile from where officials believe Young and Pearson-Jenkins had camped, according to Pulver. Officials have not identified the body at this time.

“We have found a body. I cannot confirm the identity of the body. Circumstantially, one could believe that it is hers,” Pulver said Saturday.

The body has been transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine its identity and the cause of death.

Police were unable to locate Young until park rangers found him at Yuba State Park on Saturday. Young has been booked on investigation of criminal homicide.
