The following is a news release from the Rexburg Arts Council.

REXBURG — Music of the season from the traditional community choir and other performers will again be heard at the Thanksgiving Morning Program at 10 a.m. in the Rexburg Tabernacle.

Kendell and Elaine Nielsen are the choral directors this year, which will include a children’s chorus in the final number, “When You Believe”.

“This free presentation is a 40 year tradition in Rexburg and is a great way to remember the season of giving thanks, along with greeting friends and neighbors and out-of-town guests who make it a tradition to attend the celebration,” says Gwyn Harris, program director.

The choir, consisting of singers of all ages and many members of families who participate each year, begin rehearsing 6 weeks in advance of Thanksgiving to prepare half of the program. The remaining portion will be guest performers interspersed with a seasonal message by this year’s narrator, Chuck Porter.

Those solo performers will include Rebecca Parkinson with an organ solo on the Austin pipe organ, Rachel Felt on her viola, accompanied by Brian Felt. Alyssa Dorman will perform a Mozart piano sonata; Elizabeth George, harp, and Rebecca Harrell, piano, will offer “If You Could Hie to Kolob.”

“This free hour-long program is a wonderful way to begin Thanksgiving Day reminiscent of the by-gone days when people attended a Thanksgiving devotional before the feasting began”, says choir member, Rick Robbins, “Way before football or the annual turkey shoot.”

This event is sponsored by the City of Rexburg and the Rexburg Arts Council.
