Discoveries of Darwin and Archimedes traveling to Museum of Idaho in 2019

IDAHO FALLS — Science enthusiasts get ready because the Museum of Idaho is bringing two new traveling exhibits into their doors in 2019.

“This is truly a time of discovery as the Museum of Idaho offers a glimpse through the ‘new eyes’ of two incredible minds,” said museum exhibition director Rod Hansen in a news release.”Come meet Archimedes of Syracuse and Charles Darwin.”

The first exhibit to arrive at the museum will be Archimedes: Science & Innovations running from January to September. Visitors will get a different glimpse of the past in September at Darwin & Dinosaurs remaining at the museum through May 2020.

Archimedes: Science & Innovations celebrates the work and life of Greek mathematician Archimedes.This exhibition showcases more than 60 items, including reconstructions of lost technology invented by Archimedes. Guests of the museum will encounter puzzle challenges throughout the exhibit of interactive machines he designed during the 3rd century BC. Visitors will see Archimedes lasting impact through principles still used today in math, architecture and engineering. This exhibit is produced by Artisans of Florence International.

Darwin & Dinosaurs shows a collection of 19th-century discoveries forever changing scientists view of the world. Included in the exhibition is 13 full and partial casts of dinosaur skeletons following their discovery and concepts developed by Darwin. Additionally 85 rare artifacts from the HMS Beagle, the ship, which hosted Darwin during his life’s voyage will be included in the exhibit. A fast-paced interactive touchscreen game illustrating natural selection is also at the exhibit. This exhibit is produced by Embedded Exhibitions.

The current traveling exhibit, Discover Steampunk, remains open until January 6, 2019. Archimedes: Science & Innovations will open in the current space after a three-week closure, and Darwin & Dinosaurs will be housed in the newly expanded portion of the museum, which is currently under construction. The museum will remain open during the removal of Archimedes: Science & Innovations.
