UPDATE

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

At about 11:42 p.m. Friday, Idaho State Police initiated a traffic stop in Idaho Falls in the area of Northgate Mile and Lomax. During the traffic stop, the male driver fled on foot and was pursued by ISP.

The pursuit ended with a physical altercation during which an ISP Trooper fired one shot from his duty weapon.

Responding law enforcement officers on the scene quickly rendered first aid and the suspect was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Eastern Idaho Critical Incident Task Force is now investigating this officer-involved shooting with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office as the lead investigative agency.

The name of the deceased man is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

ORIGINAL STORY

IDAHO FALLS — A large group of law enforcement cornered off the intersection of Northgate Mile and Lomax Street early Saturday morning following an officer-involved-shooting.

Very little information has been released about the incident, however, we do know the shooting occurred following a traffic stop by an Idaho State Police trooper.

Idaho Falls City spokesman Bud Cranor confirms one individual was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center just after midnight with unknown injuries. Cranor said the individual taken to the hospital was not the officer.

As is typical of an officer-involved-shooting an outside agency — in this case Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office — will be investigating the incident.
