Residents encouraged to sign up for text alert system

IDAHO FALLS — City officials are encouraging people to sign up for a text alert system meant to reach companies and individuals in times of emergencies.

“Last week 400 cars had to be towed because they did not receive the text alert,” said Idaho Falls city spokesman Bud Cranor.

Plows were clearing the roads, but the owners of vehicles parked on the street did not receive notifications that their cars needed to be moved.

Alerts are sent for other reasons, such as police situations, emergencies and other needs.

To receive these text alerts, text ifalerts to 91011.
