BLACKFOOT — Incumbent Republican Julianne Young is on track to remain in Legislative District 31 Seat B.

Young was running against Democratic candidate Travis Oler for the seat, which covers all of Bingham County.

As of 12 a.m. Wednesday, the Idaho Secretary of State’s Office reports there were 12,414 total votes. Young received 7,099, or 57% of votes, and Oler brought in 5,315, or 43% of the total.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve. I’m looking forward to the next two years and to the good things that we can do together,” Young told EastIdahoNews.com. “I really appreciate the support and the many good people that have helped to make things happen for us.”

Oler said in a statement to EastIdahoNews.com that during his campaign, he was able to highlight several important issues. He said those included the need to fix and pass farmers’ right to repair, the misguided effort to raise Idaho sales tax, and the corrupting influence of conspiracy groups and the Idaho Freedom Foundation.

“For the first time in eight years during the general election, Bingham County voters were able to choose between two candidates for state Legislature. That’s a big win for the voters,” he said. “Even though I was outspent by tens of thousands of dollars, the race was very competitive, and I look forward to once more running against Julianne Young in 2022.”

In other election news, incumbent Republican Chad Christensen is expected to defeat Democrat Bill Leake in Legislative District 32 Seat B.
