IDAHO FALLS — As of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, incumbent Rep. Barbara Ehardt looked poised to continue to represent the Idaho Falls-area in the Idaho House.

Ehardt, a Republican, was running against Democrat Miranda Marquit for District 33’s House Seat A in the 2020 general election.

As of 11:30 p.m., the Idaho Secretary of State’s Office reported there were 14,319 total votes. Ehardt received 8,132, or 57% of votes, and Marquit tallied 6,187, or 43% of the total.

“I’m incredibly humbled to have the opportunity to continue to serve our community as your state representative,” Ehardt told EastIdahoNews.com. “This has been an amazing experience, the last two years to serve as a legislator.”

Ehardt says that she’s been able to bring forward successful legislation that benefits Idaho, and her priority is to continue to do that.

“(I will try) to represent Idaho Falls and Idaho, to continue to protect those values that have defined Idahoans for over 100 years,” she stated. “(I will) continue to protect our freedoms.”

Ehardt says Idaho is the No. 1 growing state in the nation because of deregulation and keeping taxes low, and because people want to raise their families here.

“They’re coming to Idaho to be able to have their religious freedom, freedom of speech, to be able to maintain their Second Amendment rights and to see the Constitution upheld,” Ehardt says. “That’s something I’ve always committed to do and will continue to do.”

Marquit issued her congratulations to Ehardt early Wednesday morning.

“I want to congratulate Rep. Ehardt on maintaining her seat,” she said. “I really hope that she considers the needs of the district.”

In other District 33 news, Republican Marco Erickson was leading Democrat David Roth by a wide margin at midnight.
