BLACKFOOT — Police say a man raped and assaulted a woman inside a Blackfoot home.

On Nov. 22, dispatchers received a 911 call and overheard a woman screaming “stop.” The Blackfoot Police Department rushed to the house and later arrested 22-year-old Dillon Wayne Mathews on a lengthy list of charges.

Police reports show when officers arrived at the house, they knocked on the door and received no response, according to an affidavit of probable cause. Officers wrote they heard a struggle inside, so police forced their way inside.

Police found a woman inside with a large swollen black eye and blood coming from her nose. The victim described to police that Mathews had been drinking, got upset and raped her.

Mathews is alleged to have become angry after the reported rape and repeatedly attacked the victim. At one point, the victim said Mathews began choking her to the point she nearly blacked out.

When police tried speaking with Mathews, he allegedly charged at officers and, after a struggle, was placed into handcuffs. Police allege that Mathews kicked multiple police officers once in custody.

Court documents do not detail Mathews’ recollection of events.

Mathews is charged with rape, domestic battery inflicting traumatic injury, attempted strangulation, two counts of battery on police, all felonies. Matthews is also charged with misdemeanor false imprisonment.

Although Mathews is charged with a crime, it does not necessarily mean he committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Mathews bail is set at $250,000 and he remains held in the Bingham County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17.
