Campfire left unattended cause of 34-acre fire near Menan
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS – A 34-acre fire west of Menan is fully contained after two days of growth.
U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Kelsey Griffee tells EastIdahoNews.com the Walker Levee fire started Monday evening on the north end of 3200 East in Jefferson County near the Snake River bottoms.
Investigators have determined an unattended campfire was the cause of the blaze.
The fire was fully contained Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. No injuries were reported. Multiple agencies are working to put the fire out.
Central Fire District in Jefferson County initially responded between 5 and 6 p.m. Monday. Central Fire District Chief Carl Anderson says the terrain is extremely brushy and grassy, which makes it hard to work. Griffee says it’s also been very dry and windy.
Griffee is reminding campers to never leave a fire unattended and make sure it’s out before leaving the area.
