IDAHO FALLS – A local nonprofit is partnering with the Upper Valley Child Advocacy Center in Rigby for a clothing swap Saturday.

Community Youth in Action is leading the effort in Idaho Falls. Isabelle Tower, one of the youth organizers for the event, tells EastIdahoNews.com the clothing swap begins at 9 a.m. and is open to anyone on a first-come, first-serve basis free of charge.

“Come and take whatever you need or want, whether it’s one bag or 17,” Isabelle says.

There are a wide variety of clothes available for people of all ages, including T-shirts, jeans, coats, Halloween costumes, shoes, hats, scarves, gloves and more. All of it was donated by members of the community.

Any clothing that is left over will be donated to the Idaho Falls Area Humanitarian Center and local thrift stores.

Isabelle and her peers held a similar event in Rigby last weekend. After it was over, there was still a ton of clothes remaining. They decided to do it again this weekend for people in Idaho Falls.

“We just want to get all the clothes we have to the people who need them,” says Isabelle.

CYA is devoted to empowering youth through fostering positive relationships and through activities and community service. Melodee Brown is a high school student who serves as a volunteer team captain. She helps organize service projects for the organization every week and she says it’s a rewarding experience.

“We want to make a difference in our community,” Melodee says.

“Our youth are very invested in our program. They do amazing things every day. We’re very proud of them,” Isabelle adds, who works for Americorps and is a volunteer staff member at CYA.

Community Youth in Action accepts clothing donations on an ongoing basis and there are always clothes available to anyone who wants them.

Isabelle says they’re always looking for new people to join the group and they invite anyone who may be interested to take a tour and see what it’s like.

“With this being an Idaho Falls event, we’re hoping that we’ll have a lot more of the community come out and see our center and get some free clothes while they’re at it,” she says.

CYA is inside the old Boy Scout Office at 574 4th Street. The clothing swap will be going on until 2 p.m.
