Compass Academy hosting interactive museum experience tonight
IDAHO FALLS — In honor of those who have served in the armed forces, Compass Academy is inviting veterans and the public to attend a one night event, “Beyond The Battlefield: An Interactive Museum Experience.”
Cassidy Jardine, a Facilitator at Compass Academy helping students with this project, says it originally started as a Veteran’s Day assignment about World War I but with such a big interest from students, it turned into more.
“It was so popular with the students they decided to expand on the idea and create an entire museum display to celebrate Military Appreciation month which takes place in May,” she said. “Displays will cover wars from WWI through Afghanistan.”
Sophomores at Compass Academy created and designed interactive displays with some including sound effects, some trying to recreate the atmosphere of where the wars took place and others describing soldiers’ experience on and off the battlefield.
“Students researched different wars, then created displays based on what they had learned. The displays are similar to what you would experience in a museum setting with informational placards and experiences and we hope the community will come to see the hard work of the students, along with honoring those who’ve served in our military, past or present,” Jardine says.
The event is free and happens Thursday, May 19 from 6-8 pm at Compass Academy – 955 Garfield Street in Idaho Falls.
Some displays will also be featured at the Field of Honor event during Memorial Day weekend at Freeman Park May 28-30.
