Idaho Falls restaurant one of six in nation to win Nutella Fancake award

IDAHO FALLS — A local restaurant will receive $5,000 and a year’s supply of Nutella after being selected as a winner in the first-ever Nutella Fancakes Awards.

Cedric’s Family Restaurant in Idaho Falls was one of six eateries nationwide to win the award. Nutella asked pancake lovers around the country to nominate their favorite independently owned pancake spots for a chance to win the “latest coveted restaurant industry top honor.”

“It’s really awesome and a great surprise,” Cedric’s manager Danese Anderson tells EastIdahoNews.com. “One of our patrons saw they were having a contest so they put us down. Then before we knew it, we got a call saying we won.”

Other Fancake winners include Steve’s Diner in New Hampshire, The Pancake Pantry in Tennessee, The Magnolia Pancake Haus in Texas, Pancake House in Texas and Ricas Crepas in Los Angeles.

“Nutella will give all six pancake spots a $5,000 grant and a year’s supply of Nutella to spread more joy to their loyal patrons,” a news release says. “The fan-voted winners will also receive new hardware in the form of a sparkling Nutella Fancakes trophy and team up with Nutella to create an exclusive Nutella pancake recipe that embodies how special each spot is to their local community.”

Cedric’s opened its doors nearly 40 years ago at 1260 West Broadway Street in Idaho Falls. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and Anderson says they go through “a lot” of Nutella every day.

“We put it on omelets, pancakes and we’ve even discovered that we can put it in vanilla steamers to make a Nutella hot chocolate,” she explains. “It’s a great honor that someone put us in the contest and to be picked as a winner here in Idaho Falls.”
