IDAHO FALLS — Railroad enthusiasts will have a fun opportunity to see several scale model railroads at an event this weekend.

The Eagle Rock Railroad Historical Society is hosting Railshow 2023 in Idaho Falls on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Idaho Falls Recreation Center on 520 Memorial Drive, which is by the Idaho Falls Farmers Market.

The Railshow has been happening for over 30 years now.

“The model train show is a place where you can find other people who are interested in model railroading,” said coordinator David Shaw. “There’s just something fun about getting together with other people that do the same hobby you do.”

It’s an event where people can also get introduced to the hobby or bring their kids because they love watching.

“There’s so many different hobbies in model railroading. There’s woodworking and electronics and plastic model building and just the operation of trains,” Shaw said. “The kids are so much fun to watch, they just light up. They want to take it all home with them!”

There will be swap and commercial dealers there too. Shaw said they sell anything you can imagine that has to do with trains and model railroading.

“There’s not any hobby stores in town or in the area anymore,” Shaw said. “It’s a place you can buy things, you can trade what you have, you can bring what you have and sell it to someone.”

There will be at least nine displays that are different sizes, including some Lego train layouts.

Shaw said 1,000 people typically come to the event. He said that his favorite part is being able to see everyone have a good time.

“I just really enjoy socializing with all the people that come from all over the place. People come down from Montana and over from Boise, up from southern Utah,” Shaw said.

Admission costs $4 per person, with at least two cans of food to donate. It costs $5 per person without food and is free for ages 10 and under. There will be door prizes.
