Fremont County coroner identifies two people killed in crash over the weekend

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

Idaho State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatality collision that occurred at 2:56 p.m. on Sunday on US 20 at milepost 391.1., near Island Park in Fremont County.

A 49-year-old male with a 49-year-old female passenger, both from Belgrade, Montana, were traveling eastbound on US 20 in a 2010 GMC Sierra pickup truck. A 53-year-old male of Blackfoot with a 52-year-old female passenger of Idaho Falls were traveling westbound in a 2021 Peterbilt semi-truck. The GMC crossed into the westbound lane where it was struck by the Peterbilt.

Both occupants of the GMC succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The passenger of the Peterbilt was transported via air ambulance to a local hospital.

The driver of the GMC and the passenger of the Peterbilt were not wearing seatbelts. The driver of the Peterbilt and passenger of the GMC were wearing seatbelts.

The eastbound and westbound lanes of US 20 were blocked for approximately four hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police. Idaho State Police was assisted by Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Fremont County EMS, Idaho Transportation Department, and Fremont County Fire.
