Bundle up! Snow and high winds are expected

POCATELLO — Eastern Idaho can expect some snow on Friday and high winds over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Pocatello.

A winter weather advisory has been issued and will be in effect from 5 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

“Anytime after midnight will be fair game to see some light snow, at least. Probably see some snow continue falling after midnight tonight and then kind of on and off throughout the day on Friday,” said Audra Moore, a meteorologist at NWS.

Places like Mud Lake, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, St. Anthony, Pocatello, Blackfoot, American Falls, Shelley, Fort Hall and Burley could have snow accumulations of up to three inches. Check the graphic below to see predicted measurements.

The advisory says to plan for slippery road conditions, which could impact the morning or evening commute.

According to the winter weather advisory, winds gusting as high as 40 mph will “create concern” for blowing and drifting snow.

“Tomorrow morning is not too much of an issue, but once we start getting into late morning and early afternoon, we will start to see the wind picking up, and through tomorrow night and Saturday, it’s going to be pretty windy for everybody,” Moore said.
