Seasonal ice rink, music venue coming to Rexburg for winter family fun

REXBURG — A new ice skating rink with a live music venue is coming to Rexburg on Friday.

The Teton Vu Drive-In off Yellowstone Highway is being converted for the winter. There will be several family-friendly activities for a seasonal business called The Rink.

“The whole idea is just to have something to do during the wintertime because the big problem we have, in Rexburg especially, is there’s nothing to do during the winter,” said Boden Huffaker, organizer of The Rink. “We are excited.”

Huffaker says it gets cold, the sun goes down and there’s Brigham Young University-Idaho nearby with students looking for activities to do. Huffaker is a BYU-Idaho student himself, and he wanted The Rink to be around so anybody could come out and enjoy.

There are food vendors, axe throwing, a Christmas light path, human foosball and s’mores. A s’mores kit comes with the price of the ticket.

“A s’mores kit has marshmallow, graham crackers and some chocolate. They can cook it,” Huffaker said.

The ticket price also includes ice skates.

“It’s synthetic ice, so it’s not as good as normal ice … but typically, it’s what hockey players will use and they will set it up in their garages and they will practice on it,” he said.

Right now, it’s not cold enough to have an ice rink without synthetic ice, but there are plans for one.

“We do plan in the wintertime when it actually gets really cold, we will do a separate ice skating rink with real ice,” Huffaker said.

There’s also a venue that will have live music playing for entertainment.

“Live music will be on Friday and Saturday every week. We have three bands that play each day,” Huffaker said.

The Rink officially opens Friday, Nov. 10, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. It will be open on Saturdays, Mondays and Thursdays. Although it won’t be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays, there are options for renting The Rink on those days.
