MADISON COUNTY — Local law enforcement took a man to jail after he reportedly hurt a woman at a cabin in a remote area of Madison County.

On Wednesday, deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Teton County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho State Police responded to a cabin near the Green Canyon area after a woman reported she’d been punched in the face and neck.

Deputies had to drive four miles of unmaintained roads and deep snow to get to it, a news release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office says.

Law enforcement arrested Nicholas Nelson, 43, of Shelley, when they arrived. He was charged with felony domestic violence, felony unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony intimidating a witness, and felony attempted strangulation.

He’s now in custody at the Madison County Jail. His bond was set at $200,000.

The victim was taken to the hospital in an ambulance so she could be treated for her injuries.

“Sheriff Ball would like to thank Teton County Sheriff’s Office and ISP for their quick response and cooperation,” the release said.
