CHUBBUCK — A long-running family event that brings neighbors together is returning this weekend.

Chubbuck Days will be held on three days this week, from Thursday until Saturday. People in attendance will have the chance to see a parade, eat food from local vendors and spend time with the people in their community.

“It’s the same event people have loved for years,” said Mayor’s Assistant Wendy Butler, who has been organizing the event for 19 years.

This year, the first day of Chubbuck Days will feature a Tennis Tournament at the Ron Osborn Tennis Complex at 5246 Park Lawn Drive. The tournament will have 78 competitors start on Thursday and go until Saturday.

There will be two rounds on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday will have two rounds at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. There will be three rounds on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. and will end at around 4 p.m.

On Friday, families will have the opportunity to watch a family movie at Stuart Park for free. This year, the movie will be Kung Fu Panda 4, and it will start at around dusk. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and to come early.

On Saturday, the day’s festivities will begin with a parade that will start at 10 a.m. The Chubbuck Days parade will feature around 100 floats.

“The kids love it. They get a pile of candy. It’s a great atmosphere,” Butler said. “Who doesn’t love a parade?”

The floats will line up at the Pine Ridge Mall, and go down Hawthorne Road until they reach West Chubbuck, where they will turn left. The parade will end once the floats reach Independence Avenue.

The Chubbuck Days Festival will begin at 11 a.m. at Cotant Park and will end at 3 p.m. The festival will feature around 70 booths spread out across the park.

There will be a number of free family events at the festival.

The first will be the EastIdahoNews.com ping pong ball drop. At noon a helicopter will fly overhead and drop ping pong balls on the park’s red field, and people will be able to collect one ball and turn it in for a potential prize.

The next event will be the Watermelon Feed at 2:30 p.m. where Chubbuck city officials slice and hand out watermelon donated by Walmart to anyone who wants a piece.

People who are looking to wash off can then go to the Fireman’s Rain at 2:45 p.m. where the Chubbuck Fire Department will spray water from its ladder truck.

The first Chubbuck Days was held in 1960, and Butler said the intent of it has always stayed the same.

“It makes everybody feel connected and realize how lucky we are to live in such a nice community,” Butler said.
