ROUNDUP: Big day for area teams looking to advance to the state trophy round

Eastern Idaho will be well-represented on Championship Saturday as 12 area teams will be playing for trophies in all six classifications.
Here’s a roundup from Friday’s games.
6A
MADISON
The Bobcats had little trouble with conference foe Thunder Ridge, earning a 54-27 win.
Nash Humpherys scored 15 points and Carter Lerwill added 13 for Madison.
Thunder Ridge was held to single digits in every quarter.
Kyler Sparks topped the Titans with nine points.
Madison will play Borah in the consolation game on Saturday. Tip is 10 a.m. at Centennial High.
4A
SUGAR-SALEM
A strong second half propelled the Diggers to a 57-45 win over Filer in Friday’s consolation round.
Riley Williams scored 16 points and Ky Peterson added 10 points for Sugar-Salem.
The Diggers outscored the Wildcats 33-20 in the second half and the defense held Filer to 30% shooting for the game.
The Diggers will play Kimberly in Saturday’s consolation final. Tip is 10 a.m. at Eagle High.
3A
SODA SPRINGS
The Cardinals moved into the consolation final with a 65-56 win over Orofino.
Cooper Thompson led three players in double figures with 24 points, including five 3-pointers and also had seven assists.
Gavin Hansen added 14 points and Kyen Kirby scored 10.
Fifth-seeded Soda Springs (15-11) turned 17 turnovers by the Maniacs into 23 points.
The Cardinals will play New Plymouth in the consolation final Saturday at Capital High. Tip is 10 a.m.
FIRTH
There were 10 lead changes, but Wendell held on for a 57-47 win over the Cougars in the 3A semifinal.
Madex Howell and Michael Adams each scored 14 points for Firth and Wyatt Killpack added 13 points. Adams also had a team-high seven rebounds.
Firth will face Ambrose in the third-place game at noon at Capital High.
2A
GRACE
Grace fell behind early and lost to Kendrick 66-54 in a 2A semifinal.
Kendrick led by 24 points at the half.
Laexin Van Gass topped the Grizzlies with 15 points Braden Kimball scored 11.
Grace plays Lakeside in Saturday’s third-place game. Tip is noon at Vallivue High.
1A
WATERSPRINGS
The Warriors rebounded from a tough loss to Challis in the tournament opener and advanced to the consolation final with a 66-54 win over Nezperce.
Four players scored in double figures for Watersprings, led by Ryan Demkowicz with 25 points. He also grabbed 14 rebounds.
Titus Driver added 16 points and 14 rebounds, Jonny Thienes scored 13 points and Korban Nelson added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Watersprings will play Cascade in the consolation final at 10 a.m. at Caldwell High.
