ROUNDUP: Six area teams bring home third-place and consolation trophies

Madison, Soda Springs, Firth, Grace, Watersprings and Rockland all won trophies on Saturday.

Here’s a recap of state tournament action.

MADISON
The Bobcats finished strong in the fourth quarter to defeat Borah 40-38 in the consolation final.

Borah led early as Madison had just 13 points at the half, but the Bobcats rallied and outscored the Lions 13-5 in the fourth.

Nash Humpherys scored 20 points for Madison, which finished the season 23-3.

BONNEVILLE
Tyler Jordan scored 22 points and two other players finished in double figures for Bonneville, but it wasn’t enough in a 65-58 loss to Twin Falls in the third-place game.

Kayden Carson added 12 points and Boston Jardine scored 10 points.

The Bees, seeded No. 5 after beating Blackfoot in the district tournament, finish the season 16-12.

SUGAR-SALEM
The Diggers fell 55-45 to Kimberly in the consolation game.

Kimberly outscored Sugar-Salem 11-5 in the fourth and hit 17 of 25 free throws to keep the early advantage.

Riley Williams led Sugar-Salem with 18 points and Ace Clark grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Sugar-Salem finishes the season 19-7.

MARSH VALLEY

The Eagles’ postseason run ended in the third-place game as McCall-Donnelly defeated Marsh Valley 60-49.

The Vandals had the rebounding edge 43-22 and held the Eagles to six points in the third quarter.

Kaden Hansen finished with 12 points and Eli Hadley added 10 points for Marsh Valley.

The Eagles end the season 14-13.

SODA SPRINGS
The Cardinals, playing in their first state tournament since 2016, earned the consolation trophy with a 56-49 win over New Plymouth.

Cooper Thompson scored 26 points and had a team-high six rebounds for Soda Springs, and Gavin Hansen tallied 14 points and Preston Ozburn added 10.

New Plymouth led at the half, but the Cardinals put together a 16-7 run in the third to take the lead.

Soda Springs finishes the season 16-11.

FIRTH
The District 6 champion was down by 10 after the first quarter but rallied for a 61-58 win over Ambrose in the third-place game.

Center Wyatt Killpack finished with 21 points and nine rebounds as the Cougars outscored the Archers 28-14 in the paint.

Brycen Anderson scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Firth and Michael Adams finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Firth finishes the season 20-6.

GRACE
The Grizzlies were just 6-12 in January, but finished strong and capped their season with a 63-55 win over Lakeside in the third-place game.

Laexin Van Gass led Grace with 23 points and nine rebounds and Chase Smith added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Grace finishes the season 14-14.

WATERSPRINGS
The Warriors pulled away in the second half to win the program’s first state trophy with a 57-43 win over Cascade in the consolation final.

Watersprings shot 65% in the second half and Matthew Kinoshita scored 18 points and Titus Driver added 16 points and eight rebounds.

Watersprings finishes the season 22-4.

ROCKLAND
The Bulldogs won their fifth consecutive state trophy, downing Garden Valley 79-60 in the third-place game.

Woodrow Lowder finished with 33 points and hit 7 of 14 3-pointers to pace Rockland.

Aidan Radford scored 19 points and Xavier Parrish added 16 points.

Rockland put up 44 points in the first half and finished the game shooting 52%.

The Bulldogs finished the season 22-4.
